Hong Kong, 5 December 2018 - Hong Kong Gold Coast (Hotel, Yacht Club, Residences and Piazza) strives to protect the environment in every aspect where possible. The introduction of Hong Kong Gold Coast Green Journey signifies the commitment of Hong Kong Gold Coast in adopting leading environmental protection measures and providing an all-round green educational experience to the general public.

Collaborating with various green art partners, the very first Green Upcycling Themed Room in Hong Kong is created in Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel to demonstrate the amazing possibilities of upcycling. Gold Coast Farm provides 'go green" opportunity for urban dwellers. Gold Coast Zipline and Tree Hunt Game also bring extra excitement and hands-on experience for guests to understand the nature as well as enhancing parent-child relationship.

The First Green Upcycling Themed Room in Hong Kong

A groundbreaking green upcycling themed room was officially launched in Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel today to introduce a unique green journey of art and education to the guests. Various organisations such as 'Memories Factory', 'Roku Moku', 'madeinsample', '卓翹習勞' and 'Okapi studio' joined hands in co-creating this amazing green room. The room is full of surprises including handmade upcycling art pieces, such as a signature 3-string guitar made of tin container and recycled wood; an armchair made of wooden wine boxes, pallets and wine corks; sea wave wall decoration made of recycled plastic bottles; coffee table and chairs made of magazines and egg cartons, and bed runners made with upcycling sample materials. Aquaponics and eco-friendly toys, etc. are also found in this unique guest room. Guests staying in this green room are encouraged to bring their own towels and amenities. Other green practices such as the use of refillable dispensers for amenities (soap, shampoo & conditioner) and glass bottles help educate guests to live green.

Green and Healthy Menu

In-room organic snacks combo, including berries rice cake and pumpkin breakfast bar, are provided, while the hotel's restaurants provide green menu offering local hydroponic vegetables to reduce carbon footprints. Vegetarian menus and sustainable seafood are also provided.

Tree Hunt Game by The Jane Goodall Institute Hong Kong

In association with The Jane Goodall Institute Hong Kong, a self-guided "Tree Hunt Game' is offered to hotel guests who are encouraged to explore the diverse species of commonly seen trees and birds in Hong Kong by following simple guidelines in the booklet.

The First Hotel with a Green Organic Farm at the Doorstep

The Green Journey is then extended outdoors as the hotel proudly presents Gold Coast Farm designed by Smiley Planet. By dividing the space into different zones, the farm grows different seasonal produce, fertilized with only organic fertilizers and compost. Companion planting techniques and seasonal crops are used as pest control, making the farm an evergreen highlight for visitors.

Workshops to Train Up Green Ambassadors

Gold Coast Farm also hosts different workshops from time to time, using puppets to identify the beneficial insect and pests. Instructors will introduce the importance of beneficial insects to organic farming and environmental protection, and the use of the organic materials instead of chemicals to control pests. Children will also learn how to make wood wind chimes. Those who have taken part in these workshops will be recognized as green ambassadors. More than 150 children have already gained the title of green ambassadors, through the many schools and non-profit organisations that Gold Coast Hotel has partnered with.

Gold Coast Zipline Experience

Hold on tight and enjoy the ultimate Zipline experience in our green environment, with a brand new Zipline with two length options of 16m and 30m available for adults and kids aged 6 years or above. Zipline is also an environmentally friendly experience since no electricity is used.

An All-round Green Experience

Hong Kong Gold Coast has installed a wide range of devices and a series of green measures such as umbrella dryers, smart water dispensers, solar panels and seabin. To save valuable water resources, the hotel reuses chiller water for irrigating flowers at the guest room balcony. There are also actions taken to reduce the disposal of single use plastics (No Straw Campaign) and save food waste by the delivery of leftover food from banquet to beneficiaries.

Proudly presented by Hong Kong Gold Coast, 'Hong Kong Gold Coast Green Journey' invites everyone to join hands and build a greener and better tomorrow by sowing green seeds in every child's heart to treasure and protect our environment.
